Stereo Viewing

Introduction
There are some prerequisites for starting a stereo viewer:
- A Strabo Project must be created or an existing one opened.
Pay attention to the camera definition. A wrong camera definition (e.g. with a bad focal length) will cause abnormal situations in the stereo viewer. - The images that form the model of interest must be reachable somewhere in the LAN.
- The fiducial marks of the images that build up the model must have been measured.
Stereoscopic viewing in four different ways
Stereoscopic viewing is possible in three different ways depending on the available hardware.
Select the viewing method of your choice in Strabo's View menu:
1. Anaglyph Viewing
- This is the easiest and cheapest way to view stereo.
You do not need any special computer hardware for viewing the anaglyph images. - What do you need to view Anaglyph?
- A CRT or LCD screen.
Anglyph images can be projected using an overhead projector. - Anglyph glasses (Red/Blue).
2. Strabox Viewing
- The 'Strabox Stereo Viewer' is a viewer that uses 2 LCD screens for creating the stereo image.
- You need the following hardware:
- The Strabox viewer.
- Passive polarizing glasses.
- A graphics card that supports at least 3 monitors.
3. Stereographics Viewing
- You need the following hardware:
- Shutter glasses and emittor.
- A graphics card that supports OpenGL and quad buffering techniques.
- A high performant CRT able supporting 120 Hz refresh rate.
4. 3D Monitor
- Strabo supports also the 3D monitors that are currently available on the market.
- It is necessary to install a graphics card that supports OpenGL in this case.

Rendering Methods
Strabo has two rendering methods.
You can select the rendering method of your choice at the bottom of the View menu.
1. Standard Refresh
- For refreshing an image view, Strabo reads image tiles with the same size of the stereo viewer pane.
- This means that if the stereo viewer window is maximized, the tiles to be read will be very big.
This will slow down the refresh of the imagery in the stereo viewer. - The 'Standard Refresh' rendering method works good for smaller stereo window sizes.
2. Tile Buffered Refresh
- The 'Tile Buffered Refresh' rendering method builds up the stereo image using smaller tiles, regardless the size of the stereo window.
- This is done in such a way that the refresh can be interrupted by panning, zooming and editing functions.
- In case of using the Strabox viewer you better use the 'Tile Buffered Refresh' method, because in the Strabox viewer the stereo window is automatically maximized.
