Introduction to EOS

What is EOS ?
EOS is short for 'Enterprise Orbit Server'. It is the GIS data server for your organization or enterprise, either local, corporate wide or for internet/intranet use.
By putting GIS data into EOS, you make it available for concurrent users in your organization, sharing the same data in real time, for example Orbit Explorer users, Orbit GIS operators, Orbit FlashMap users or other Orbit related clients.
EOS is also the backbone of Orbit FlashMap, the internet map publisher tool from Orbit. Using this tool, any WMS client can connect to EOS.
Why do I need EOS ?
The use of EOS is not only easy, it's also very important. For users of data, EOS is easy because it allows simple and transparent access to vast amounts of data, without the required knowledge of filenames or paths. Just log on and EOS presents all data.
For data administrators, EOS is very important since it shares resources among users, and keeps track of the uses and changes made by individuals, making sure no one destroys the work of the other. Using the EOS user login and user permissions, all modifications are applied to a single data resource.
How do I proceed ?
Install EOS on a server machine. Use the EOS Console to administer EOS : add data resources and setup user accounts and profiles. Assign access permissions for each resource to users.
Then the user can log on to EOS, and will be presented the resources to which he has been given permission.
