Manage User Accounts
The main part of the configuration panel is dedicated to user management. You can see 3 tables.
Administrators
Set here the users allowed to use the EOS Console.
These users are EOS Console Administrators only, and do not have access rights to the spatial data.
User groups
Specify here user groups of common users.
Users
Specify here common users, and assign them to a single user group.
Each user belongs to one and only one user group.
Users can log on to EOS and consult or edit the resources according to their permissions.
Users and User Permissions
User Permissions determine the way a user gets access to a resource. User Permissions are set per dataset with the following degrees : hidden, viewable, editable.
The EOS Console Administrator can assign these permissions to a single user and/or to a user group. When a permission is set for a user, it overrules a user group permission. When no permissions are set, a default or 'global' permission is used (default = viewable).
Summary : Each resource ha a global permission. When required, other permissions can be set for a user group, or for a single user. The user permission overrules the user group permission, which overrules the global permission.
Manage Administrators
Using the buttons to the right of the table you can manage the EOS Console Administrators.
Remember these administrators can only use the EOS Console.
Manage User Groups
User Groups only require a name. Remember to first define a user group, then assign a user to the group. There must be at least 1 group. When removing a group, all users from the group are removed as well. If you wish to keep the users, first reassign them to a different group before removing the group.
Manage Users
Define a user for each individual person. Each user must belong to a user group.
A user named 'guest' (without password) allows an anonymous access to EOS resources. The user 'guest' must exist in the users definition. If so, one can use the 'guest login' option in the EOS connection dialog (e.g. in Orbit GIS). Normally, the 'guest' user has only viewable permissions.
