Map 2D Compass Rose

The Compass Rose provides the main navigation tools for the MapCanvas in a single widget.

  1. Activate the Pan-function
  2. Fixed direction Pan-function
  3. Zoom in
  4. Zoom out
  5. North-direction and Reset Rotation

1. Pan Function

The Pan Function allows to move / pan / roam the MapCanvas in order to optimize the view of the MapCanvas.
The Zoom and Rotation of the MapCanvas will not be modified. A Pan will shift the View and Center of the MapCanvas :

The Pan Function allows to move / pan / roam the MapCanvas :

  • A single click on the map centers on the clicked location
  • A double click on the map centers and zooms in to the clicked location
  • Click and Drag to move the map in the desired direction

More information and possibilities of the Pan function using the Orbit Standalone or Client, read Map 2D Pan Functions.

2. Pan in fixed direction

A single click on one of the four directions moves the MapCanvas 1/4 of the MapCanvas size to the respective direction.

3. Zoom In and 4. Zoom Out

A single click on the (+) zooms in on the map by factor 2, a click on (-) zooms out with factor 2.
The center of the MapCanvas will not be moved, only the scale will be adjusted.

The mouse-wheel allows a fast zoom. This behavior is always available even when an other function is activated.

More information and possibilities of the Zoom functions using the Orbit Standalone or Client, read Map 2D Zoom Functions.

5. North-direction

By default, North is upwards. The North direction can by rotated around the centre of the MapCanvas by the Rotate function.
Note that this is not possible from an Orbit Web Publication.

  • If the MapCanvas is not rotated : a single click on the North-direction button activates the rotate function.
  • If the MapCanvas is rotated: a double click on the North-direction button resets the rotation of the MapCanvas to North upwards.

More information and possibilities of the Rotate function using the Orbit Standalone or Client, read Map 2D Rotate Function.
