Prepare Oblique data for Generic Import

This page describes how to prepare oblique resources for a generic Orbit import.
Using the generic Orbit import templates prepared oblique resources can be imported into Orbit.

It is strongly recommend to read first Understand Oblique data in Orbit.

Imagery

The generic import has the possibility to import 4 cameras.
One camera import requires one set of images and one positions and orientations file.

Image files

  • Files : *.jpg files, each oblique image is one jpg image file.
  • Naming : exactly as described in photo position file (see below, first column)

Image Positions and orientations files

  • File : one csv or ascii text file
  • Structure : Flat ascii text file
    • Rows : each image is one record
    • Columns : comma separated (char44), headers, with exact order as the example below.
  • Structure of file name : file name as on disk, with file extension.
  • Crs : Any supported projected coordinate system can be used, but all imported oblique resources should have the same crs.
  • Orientation system, 2 possibilities :
    • Omega, Phi, Kappa : reference direction is pointing eastwards.
    • Pan, Tilt, Roll : Reference direction is point northwards, positive direction of rotation, review supported oblique resources .

Camera specifications

Depending your camera specifications it will be required to adjust the default camera calibration parameters.
Review and adjust the Camera Settings in the planar[X]/import/import_locations.ord configuration file prior to the import.

  • SensorPixelSize : physical size of pixels on the sensor CCD, expressed in mm.
  • SensorPixelCountX : number of pixels in widht of the camera sensor and image.
  • SensorPixelCountY : number of pixels in height of the camera sensor and image.
  • SensorPixelPPX : principal point value along the sensor width.
  • SensorPixelPPY : principal point value along the sensor height.
  • FocalLength : focal length of the lens, expressed in mm.

DTM

Raster file

  • File : one raster .tif file and corresponding *.tfw
  • Crs : Any supported coordinate system can be used but all imported resources must have the same crs. (The CRS for a DTM is saved in the *.dem file. Make sure to adjust, when changing CRS in Orbit).

Customize

In addition on the standard available import templates the Orbit engine offers all configuration possibilities to customize the import for using any kind or combination of oblique data : Supported Resources for Oblique Imagery.
An import configuration can be added as new import template to extremely simplify all feature imports.

Please contact the Orbit support team (support at orbitgt dot com) for more information or to create your customized template.

Manage Templates

The generic import template has been added automatically on installing the product.
