Orbit Server Update 17.0

This page describes the update of an Orbit Server.

The update of an Orbit Server is always in cooperation with the Orbit Support.
Updates are free of charge when having a valid software maintenance contract. Contact Orbit Sales for more information.

  • Prepare the update first!
  • Respect the procedure exactly as documented below.
  • Take your time and work meticulously.

Preparations

Plan for assistance

Plan your update in consultation with Orbit Support to ensure their availability if required.

Communicate to coworkers

While you're updating, nobody will be able to use the Orbit WebClient and nobody may use the Orbit Desktop Client.
A well prepared update will take no longer than 15 minutes.

Request Activation Key

Request your Activation Key or verify the validity of your Activation Key, contact Orbit Sales.
Since version 11.2, runtime online license validation is applicable, see Orbit Online License Lease and Activation.

Download Update Package

Download the update package according your Product and current Version from the Orbit Ftp.
Make sure you download the right update package.
Verify your current version via Orbit Desktop > Main Toolbar > Help > About > Details

Create Full Backup

If assistance is requested Orbit Support will ask access to the full back. We do advise to create a proper backup folder :

Steps to Update from 11.2 to 17.0

Following the procedure to update Orbit Server from Orbit 11.2 to the current version 17.0.

Stop Orbit Service

  1. Close all Orbit Desktop Clients
  2. Stop the Orbit Service.
    <install_folder>/server/program/bin64/ServiceStop.bat (Run as administrator)
  3. Verify the Operating System Services and the current status of the “Orbit Enterprise Service”.

Update Orbit Client

  1. Delete following folders :
    • <install_folder>/client/program/bin64/
    • <install_folder>/client/program/config/
    • <install_folder>/client/program/doc/
    • <install_folder>/client/program/jre64/
    • <install_folder>/client/program/software/
    • <install_folder>/client/program/users/
  2. Merge folders and Replace existing files :
    • Copy folder /<update_package>/client/program/
    • Paste into /<install_folder>/client/

Update Orbit Server

  1. Delete following directories :
    • <install_folder>/server/program/jre64/
    • <install_folder>/server/program/log/
    • <install_folder>/server/program/services/publisher/logs/ (Publishers only)
    • <install_folder>/server/program/software/
    • <install_folder>/server/program/users/
    • <install_folder>/server/program/wwwroot/api/
  2. Merge folders and Replace existing files :
    • Copy folder <update_package>/server/program/
    • Paste into <install_folder>/server/

Start Orbit Service

  1. Start the Orbit Service.
    <install_folder>/server/program/bin64/ServiceStart.bat (Run as administrator)
  2. Verify the Operating System Services and the current status of the “Orbit Enterprise Service”.

Activate Product

  1. Launch the EOS Console.
    Make sure you logon to the updated EOS Console, check its version (17.0.1) displayed on top the logon panel.
  2. Activate the Updated Product.
    EOS Console > License.
    If product activation fails, see Orbit Online License Lease and Activation.

Update Publications

  1. Publish each Publication to update the Publication Version.
    EOS Console > Publishers

Steps to Patch from 17.0.X to 17.0.Y

  1. Stop Orbit Service
  2. Replace folder ../client/program/software/
  3. Replace folder ../server/program/software/
  4. Replace folder ../server/program/wwwroot/api/
  5. Replace folder ../server/program/wwwroot/eosconsole/
  6. Start Orbit Service
