Installing Orbit AIM 64bit or 32bit
No MS Access database is used anymore in the Orbit AIM Trial download.
32 bit software installed on a 64 bit Windows can use 32 bit ODBC drivers.
Did I installed the right Orbit version?
If Orbit is able to connect to Access database you did installed the correct version according to your available ODBC driver.
This is visible if all resources are correctly loaded.

Orbit AIM trial download uses Access
Orbit Asset Inventory Managements uses a database for saving all inventory items. Since Orbit is developed in Java connection to all Java supported databases are possible, ie all common databases.
For the trial download we use a Access database. Not because it is the best one, but because we can bundle this database within the Orbit AIM installer.
To be able to connect to Access-database Windows provides a ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver for Access.
Windows ODBC Drivers for Access
The availability of an ODBC drivers on Windows is very confusing!
Windows has different ODBC drivers for 64bit and 32bit!
- 64 bit software can’t use 32 bit ODBC drivers.
- 32 bit software installed on a 64 bit Windows use 32 bit ODBC drivers.
It is not so easy to install both drivers 32bit and 64bit on the same computer
- If Microsoft Office is installed an ODBC-driver will be installed. Depending on your Office installation 32 or 64bit.
- Install an ODBC driver : Microsoft Access Database Engine

Check the installed ODBC driver using ODBC Data Source Administrator
- Data Source Administrator for 64bit drivers : C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe
- Data Source Administrator for 32bit drivers : C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
