This pages gives an overview of all main toolbar functions.

Workspace

Open, save and manage your workspaces.
The workspace menu is different for Orbit desktop standalone and Orbit desktop clients. Below the documentation for Orbit desktop standalone.

“New Workspace” creates a new and blank workspace. The current workspace is not saved before closing.
“Open Workspace…” opens a file browser to select an Orbit GIS Workspace file.
“Open Recent Workspace” lists the 10 recently used workspaces, select one to open.
“Save Workspace” saves the currently opened workspace file. If it is a new workspace this will behave as a “Save Workspace As…”
“Save Workspace As…” saves the current workspace as a new Orbit workspace file.
“Close Workspace” closes the opened workspace, similar as “New Workspace”

“Open OCR as Workspace…” opens a file browser to select an Orbit Composite Resource to be opened as workspace. All OCR combined resources will be added individually to the dataset list.
“Save Workspace as OCR…” saves the current dataset list as Orbit Composite Resource.

“Print…” opens the print dialogue of your operating system's default printer to print the current map as is. To customize your printout use the Layout view.
“Export View as Image…”
“Copy View to Clipboard” copies the current Map view to the clipboard, similar as via the right click map context menu.

“Quit” closes Orbit.

Inspector

Open the Object Inspector to get all information about the selected objects.

Preferences

Open the preferences window. Preferences are user settings, define how you would like to use Orbit.

Save all

Save the spatial and attribute component of all edited datasets. The legend (layout) component is not saved by this functions.

Print

Open the print dialogue of your operating system's default printer to print the current map as is. If you would like to customize your printout use the Layout view.

When printing, Orbit will generate a map drawing as detailed as specified by the printer settings and capabilities. This may lead to very large print files.

For example : if you print an image on an A0 or E-size printer, using a resolution of 300 dpi, this will generate hundreds of megabytes of data as Orbit always prints in raster format. Be sure your computer, network and printer settings are capable of printing such large files. If not, reduce the paper size or resolution setting of your printer before issuing the Print command.

Printer & large media plotter manufacturers can give advise on how to optimize handling of large print files. Check with them how to tune your systems. Orbit GIS will behave accordingly.

Measure

Measure lengths, areas, circles, perpendicular distances and angles on the Map 2D.

Select

Select vector data on the Map 2D.
Select Objects on Map 2D

Search

Search on vector attributes of available datasets.

“Online Help / Knowledge Base…” opens this knowledge base homepage.
“Edit Registration License…” opens the License window to verify your Orbit licenses, request or validate new licenses.
“ORBIT GeoSpatial Technolgies…” opens the Orbit GT website.
“Master Licnese Agreement…” opens the Orbit MLA document.
“About…” opens the About window to review the installed product, version and system parameters. It provides a shortcut to the log file as well.
