Log files and Troubleshooting

Every single action or calculation in Orbit is logged.
These log-files contain very valuable information about all ongoing processes and will be requested by the Orbit support team on troubleshooting.

When contacting the Orbit support team, provide a complete and clear description of your problem.
Add some screenshots to document your issue and attach a clean log file as described below.

On troubleshooting it is very helpful to create and sent a clean log file.
This means restart the application, reproduce the problem, close Orbit and e-mail the log file.

Orbit Destkop

The Orbit Desktop standalone or client Orbit.log file is stored in the operating system's temp folder on the workstation itself.
The log file contains all information about the last started Orbit session. Restarting Orbit will remove the previous log and create a new file for the started session.

How to open the log file? :

  • Version 11.X : Help > About > Info > Open logfile
  • Version 10.X, standalone only : Help > About > Runtime Properties > Open logfile

The Orbit.log file is stored in the operating system's temp directory. If you would like to get into this directory, the easiest way is by entering %temp% in your Windows Explorer data path.

Orbit Server

The Orbit Server log files are stored within the Orbit installation directory.
In the bin directory on server side Orbit stores the current log file and a limited number of historic files. These files make thorough research possible.

Depending your server configuration you will find the server log files here :

  • <Orbit installation directory>/server/program/bin (server.log, server.log.X)
  • <Orbit installation directory>/server/program/bin/log

Reproduce the issue just before sending the log file, this will reduce the time required to investigate your log files. If the server log files are to big, zip them or restart the Orbit service.
