The View Menu
Overview:
The View Menu is subdivided in five different parts.
- The first submenu dealt with the selection of tiepoints. The first two functions in this box ('Tiepoints', and 'Tiepoints in strip-overlap') allow you to locate points in the Orbit GIS main viewer. The third function shows the tiepoints selected per photo. By clicking on these functions, it will open a dialog containing a list of points; and double clicking on a point's name means that the Orbit GIS viewer will move to the requested location.
- The next five menu options are flags to display the mentioned point types:
- Image Points
- Control Points
- Object Points
- DEM points
- Projection Centers
- The 'Stereo Model' submenu enables you to define individual models and view them stereoscopically.
- The 'Strip ' submenu enables you to define strips containing images.
- The last View Menu functions are settings for different hardware and image refresh methods.
1a. Tiepoints...
This menu function shows a dialog containing the different tiepoints and can be used for all accurate tiepoint measurements needed in the Aerial Triangulation process. With this dialog you can also inspect the different tiepoints at any moment. This button is only available in the 'Bundle Block Adjustment' package.

1b. Tiepoints in stripoverlap...
This button is only available in the 'Bundle Block Adjustment' package and shows only the tiepoints that are located in a strip overlap.
To use this function you need to have defined the strip overlap in the “Strip Overlap” dialog.

1c. Detected Points...
This menu function shows a dialog containing the detected tiepoints per photo.
2a. Show Tiepoints
- Setting this flag will draw a small cross for all existing tiepoints in the Orbit GIS overview window.
The image points get an approximate position because these points are only known in image coordinates and are transformed approximately to the destination coordinate system. - The display color is blue, or will be the color of the selected image to which it belongs when images are selected:

- A zoomed in display shows the approximate positions of some image points.
The dark blue borders indicate that the image files are available on disc, the light blue lines are borders of images that are not available:

2b. Show Control Points
- Setting this flag will show the exact position of the control points in the Orbit GIS Overview.
- They will be display in red:

2c. Show Object Points
- Setting this flag will show the exact position of all the object points in the Orbit GIS Overview.
They will be displayed in green:

2d. Show DEM Points
- Setting this flag will show the exact position of the Digital Elevation Model points that are available in the project in Orbit GIS.
- The display color of manually measured DEM points is yellow.
The coloured points are indicating the quality of the automatically created DEM point:

3a. Stereo Model
This menu item opens a submenu with functions to create models “Edit Stereo Models…” and to view the models stereoscopically.

3b. Contrast Enhancement
This is a flag that sets the contrast enhancement on or off.
When on, the contrast enhancement will be applied continuously by using the histogram information of the imagery.
This function is only available using the Standard Refresh method.
4a. Viewing Methods
Strabo has three different ways for viewing imagery stereoscopically.
These three menu functions are flags, that reflect your choice of viewing when opening a stereo viewer.
These flags will be used when actually starting a Stereo Viewer.
The user has to select his choice by clicking on one of the three following menu functions:
- View in Anaglyph Mode:
This is the flag used for starting a stereo viewer using anglyph.
No special hardware is needed to view in anaglyph. - View in Stereographics Mode:
This is the flag for starting a stereo viewer using the Stereographics hardware.
Stereo images are created by means of the the OpenGL (OGL) library and the use of Quad-Buffereing.
Strabo uses JOGL (Java implementation of OGL).
The user can now already select this flag but has to install the necessary viewing hardware before starting a stereo viewer. - View in Strabox Mode:
This will start a requested stereo viewer using the Strabox Stereo Viewer hardware (delivered by Eurotronics).
This viewer uses LCD screens and passive polarized glasses to create the stereo image.

4b. Image Refresh
It is possible to refresh the imagery in two different ways.
- Standard Refresh:
This refreshing method will refresh the imagery in a stereo viewer by reading image tiles that are equal to the size of the stereo viewer dialog pane.
When the stereo viewer is maximized, it can slow down the panning performance, because of the heavy image reading operations. - Tile Buffered Refresh:
This method refreshes the stereo imagery using smaller image tiles, this way of viewing is interruptible by e.g. panning, zooming and editing functions.
This is the best performing refreshing method, also when the stereo viewer window is maximized.
