Managing Annotations

Top Row functions

Storage operations

Use these functions to open and save Annotations, clear or create a new one, or use Save As.. to export. See Saving and Exchanging Annotations.

Annotation Name

Do use a proper name for each annotation when saving it. You can save the annotation in an annotation file (*.oaf extenion), or use an annotation as an attribute of a spatial object.

For an Annotation File: Enter the Filename
For an Annotation Attribute : Enter the annotation name as will appear as attribute value.

Overall Functions

These functions apply to the Annotation as a whole :

:orbitgis:tools:an_zoom_to_extent.gif Zoom to the overview of the Annotation.
:orbitgis:tools:an_overlay_mode.gif Switch presentation between Normal mode and Overlay mode. In Overlay mode (button is pressed), all annotation objects are simplified and drawn as bounding rectangles. This presentation is useful when using a detailed annotation in a larger view.
:orbitgis:tools:an_reset_size.gif Reset All Sizes tool. This tool will reset the sizes of all annotation objects to default on the current scale. Annotation objects are given a default size referring to the scale at time of creation: this size will now be re-applied, with refrence to the current scale. Use this tool to align sizes after entry of object on different scales.

Organizing

Organizing Annotation Files

When storing Annotations as a file, you can use any method you prefer to organize them or store them as permanent or temporary files, in a certain directory structure or not. You can email these files to collegues, partners, customers to let them add or change your remarks (If required, they can download and use the free Orbit Explorer to view data & annotations).

Organizing Annotation Attributes

By defining a STRING-type attribute as 'Annotation' object, the Object Inspector will display an Annotation Icon and Annotation Name as attribute value. To edit this value, click on the attribute. The Annotation will open in the Annotation Toolbar, and you can start editing and/or edit the Annotation Name. Use the Save and Close buttons to update the attribute value.
