Orbit Mobile Mapping Manager

This stand-alone product, aimed for every Mobile mapping System owner, has full support for all setups and configurations, includes data check tools such as support for trajectory visualisation based on GPS accuracy, Ground Control deviation measurements and more. Of course it includes all visualisations and inspection tools. This product however does not included the Asset Inventory set of procedures. Simple registrations remain possible.
Read more about it on this page.

Orbit Mobile Mapping Explorer

This stand-alone product is aimed to everyone who want a simple but full access to the mobile mapping content. It only supports Orbit-imported runs, which requires the data to be prepared by a Manager or AIM product. MM Explorer offers all visualizations, inspection, presentation, overlays, and most measurement tools.

Feature Overview

New Features

Hardware and Data support

  • Any combination of any Mobile Mapping content
From 10.5 Orbit supports any combination of the supported mobile mapping resources. In addition of spherical panoramas and point cloud data, (high resolution) planar images and cubic panoramas are supported as well.
  • Full support for Planar images
Planar images are supported, even without the presence of panorama's or point cloud. Planar images require proper calibration in order to be used for measurements and overlays. Formats include JP2 and PGF.
  • Support for Point Cloud only setups
If your setup only provides point clouds, 10.5 can now work without any imagery.
  • Direct support for laz
Import procedures now support the laz or LasZip format. Only in MM Manager and AIM.
  • Support for 8-bit RGB
Automatic recognition of the RGB values posted in the point cloud data as 8-bit or 24-bit.
  • Creation of Point Cloud Ortho
Added procedures or import procedure steps to create an ortho from the point cloud using a colorization setting and sample resolution. Only in MM Manager and AIM.
  • Support for large imagery files and LB5
Full support for large image files for panoramic imagery, including performance optimization processing during import and a dedicated procedure.
  • Lever arm corrections
Lever arm corrections between the given camera coordinates and the real camera position on top of the car can be defined using the import template. Orbit will apply the lever arm corrections and correct the image positions on the fly. Corrections are expressed in a metric unit.
  • Optimized Import templates
Optimized workflow using templates dedicated to each vehicle or setup.
  • Optimized Data Structuring
All mobile mapping data is now managed in a single database-like file system, enabling the easy move and delivery of an Orbit-ready Run. Also metadata is included.
  • Geoid heights
The Orbit engine has the possibility to support any geoid height.
  • Import point cloud limited to las bounds
The las bounds as defined in the header of a las file, are now used as hard limit when importing the point cloud data. If required, the import run template can be completed with a parameter to ignore the given las bounds.
  • Support of Trajectory
When a trajectory is provided, Orbit can included it in the import procedures. The MM Manager and AIM products support visualization of the trajectory in 2D and 3D, with coloring based on GPS accuracy.
  • Ground Control Points
MM Manager and AIM allow the user to load and visualize Ground Control Points and calculate the deviation to the point cloud.
  • Improved Import procedures
Enhanced organization and content for Import, Add, Edit and Remove Runs and Projects.

Visualization

  • Panoramic Backdrops
Add a great choice of backdrops to you point cloud view to add a realistic touch.
  • Point Cloud Visualization
Present a Point Cloud in a combination of color scheme and intensity. Control Brightness when displaying in RGB.
  • Viewpoint co-ordinates
in 3D view, read the co-ordinates of your viewing position in the lower left corner. Double-Click to center the 2D map to this position.
  • Enhanced Settings HUD
    Better presentation and extra parameters.
  • Enhanced View Switching
Improved and more natural switching between Panoramic, 3D and Planar views.
  • Text and Labels
Improved presentation of text labels in relation to overlay data.
  • Added 3D Roaming
Use the shift key when roaming in 3D to keep your viewpoint position.
  • Added Quick Tilting
Use the quick view icons in combination with the ctrl key to keep your viewpoint position and only apply a tilt.
  • Smarter background loading
Smarter loading of photo positions in background process to reduce performance risks.
  • Movie Maker
Make your own 3D Fly-Through movies with a simple tool. Only in MM Manager and AIM.

Measurements and Asset Inventory

  • Intelligent use of mobile mapping attribute rules
Any mobile mapping or panorama measurement result can be used as intelligent attribute. When creating new objects using the asset inventory procedures any measure result (coordinate, length, area, slope, centenary, … ) can be saved automatically as attribute value of the newly created object. Lengths and areas are calculated in an on the fly calculated coordinate system around the measure position to achieve the exact object length or area.
  • Copy to feature
A mobile mapping measurement can be saved to any available dataset in the workspace. The function “Copy to Feature” can be used to save measurements to asset inventory themes and other vector resources. Only in MM Manager and AIM.
  • Enhanced CRS Support
Enhanced management of CRS and Geoides in measurement and overlay functions.
  • Smarter Defaults
Smarter settings of defaults in relation to availability of certain datatypes in the Run.
  • Improved Management of Screenshots
Additional screenshots from a single source image can now be added.
  • Added Slope result
Additional Slope result information for several measurement functions. Only in MM Manager and AIM.

Usabilities

  • “Measure in point cloud” function is default disabled if not point cloud is available
  • New imported run direct available
After importing a new run, a restart of Orbit or reload of the run is no longer required to view and use the point cloud.
  • Optimized point cloud import
To import and process the point cloud less memory is required.
  • Series of minor enhancements in behaviours and UI.

Bug Fixes

  • All supported online mobile mapping services can be added to a Mobile Mapping publication.
  • An asset inventory measurement using multiple panoramas can be stopped successfully from the procedure window
  • A range of various minor tweaks and fixes.

Open Issues

Usabilities

  • Unlimited point overlay on panorama or planar view
    - How to Reproduce
Open a panorama view and a 3d view together. The point cloud will be displayed in both views without distance limitation.
Opening new panorama views from the map will still give the unlimited point cloud view.
    - How to solve
From 3D view, open a panorama view from a clickable blue photo position or go to the closest panorama via the icon in the left side bar.
From a panorama view, open another panorama view by clicking a blue photo position.
