Hardware and Technical Requirements

Platform Support

Orbit Technology runs on all platforms for which a proper Java runtime is available.

The Orbit technology is created in 100% pure Java. No extra's, no libraries, just Java. All Orbit products are thus runnable on all platforms for which a proper Java runtime is available. Some extensions are based on third-party libraries that are not portable: MrSID driver, ECW driver, FME support and others.

Windows

Orbit installation and support is guaranteed on :

  • Desktop : XP, Vista, 7, 8
  • Server : 2003, 2008, 2012

Linux

Since Orbit is running on Java, it is possible to install Orbit on each distribution that supports Java.
It is required the system administrator has a firm knowledge of the OS.

All distributions has their own characteristics, we tested and advise :

  • Ubuntu 10.0 or higher
  • CentOS 5.0 or higher

Depending your configuration following programs might be installed on the server by the system administrator :

  • MySQL 5.5 or higher
  • PhpMyAdmin
  • Samba
  • Java (jre6 or higher)
  • flash (version 11 or higher)

Standards

Orbit Geospatial Technologies is committed to international and interprofessional standards.

  • Most important spatial data formats are supported (or can be supported in the near future or by third parties)
  • Orbit uses only standard java
  • The IOS extension provides pure OGC WMS based services
  • Orbit FlashMap uses standard http, XML communication
  • N-tier communication uses standard internet protocol communication
