Vector Resources in 3DM Viewer

This page describes the concepts of Vector Data in 3DM Viewer

Supported Vector Resources Types

Supported Vector Resource Storage formats, see Supported Resources.

Static and Dynamic Resources

Related to loading of objects and labels:

  • Orbit Vector File (OVF) resources are loaded as static resources. The Viewer loads the entire resource at once at first use.
  • Orbit Vector Tile (OVT) resources are loaded as dynamic resources. The viewer loads the relevant tiles only. Relevant tiles are derived from the Viewer's Focus Coordinate.

Read-Only and Read-and-Write

Related to editing Vector Objects and Attributes:

  • When opened in the 3DM Viewer, Orbit Vector File (OVF), Orbit Vector Tile (OVT) and KML/KMZ resources are Read-Only.
  • Orbit Database (ODB) and WFS-T resources can be configured to be Read and write.

Related to the attribute value search:

  • OVF and OVT resources support querying of String, Integer, and Boolean attribute values. No support to search Float attribute value.
  • ODB and OWFS resources might have additional support for Float values, depending on the backend server or database.

Vector Dataset Legend

The default legend is prepared with the Orbit Desktop Tools.

Supported Basic Appearance Legend Parameters

  • Point Symbol
    • Visibility
    • Name
    • Size
    • Transparency
    • Outline Color
    • Fill Color
  • Line
    • Visibility
    • Width
    • Color
    • Transparency
  • Area Outline
    • Visibility

    • Color
    • Transparency
  • Area Fill
    • Visibility
    • Color
    • Transparency

Supported Classification Legend Parameters

  • Point Symbol Name
  • Area Fill Color
  • Area Outline Color
  • Line Color

Label Legend

Text rendering parameters belong to the Label legend, not the Basic Appearance legend. Configure them using Legend Editor > Labels in the Orbit Desktop Tools. See Dataset Legend : Labels and Dataset Legend Editor.

Supported Label Legend Parameters

    • Visibility
    • Color
    • Transparency
  • Shadow
    • Visibility
    • Type: Drop shadow
    • Color
    • Transparency
    • Direction
    • Distance
    • Blur iterations
  • Resolve Collisions (Collision Detection)
  • Dynamic Positions (Clip Objects to View)

Text Rendering

Halo

A halo adds a colored outline around the text to improve readability against the background. Halo visibility, color, and transparency are supported, including for text that follows a curved line.

Shadow

A drop shadow renders an offset copy behind the text. Its visibility, color, transparency, direction, distance, and blur can be configured. Drop shadows are also supported for text boxes and callouts.

Perspective shadows, including their light angle and length parameters, are not supported in the 3DM Viewer.

Resolve Collisions (Collision Detection)

When enabled, labels that overlap previously accepted labels are hidden. Collision detection works across vector layers for labels with this option enabled, including straight and curved text.

Labels with collision detection disabled remain visible and do not block other labels. Collision detection hides overlapping labels; it does not move them to an alternative position.

Dynamic Positions (Clip Objects to View)

When enabled, label positioning and orientation are calculated from the visible portion of the vector object rather than the entire object. This helps position labels for lines and areas that extend beyond the view.

Clipping is applied before label placement and collision detection. It does not modify the source geometry.
