Introduction

What is Strabo about?

'Strabo' is a suite of software modules that fully enables you to perform any standard photogrammetric action using digital imagery. The different modules are packaged as direct extensions on our GIS tools to Orbit Explorer Plus and Orbit GIS.

The “Strabo Suite” consists out of four modules:

  1. Project Manager:
    • The Project Manager Module enables you to define a photogrammetic project and
      lets you introduce some initial project parameters.
  2. Stereo Explorer:
    • The Stereo Explorer Module is focused to be a stereoscopic viewer without any data collection functionality,
      but with which you can pan seamless through the project's coverage with superimposition of vector data.
  3. Aerial Triangulation package:
    • The Aerial Triangulation package applies a least squares bundle adjustment procedure.
  4. Softcopy:
    • The Softcopy Module is the viewer used for stereoscopic data captation.
      The collected data is saved in the OrbitGIS datasets, giving a direct link to GIS software.

Strabo is the result of our continuing efforts made in the field of surveying, photogrammetric data production and GIS software development since 1962. Strabo is build in Java, using the Orbit Technology Toolkit. The Help files are available in the Help menu.

Where does the name Strabo come from?

Strabo is a Greek historian, geographer and philosopher who lived from 68 BC until 24 AD. Nowadays, Strabo is mostly famous for his Geographika (“Geography”), a 17-book work containing history and descriptions of people and places all over the world as known to him.
