Orbit GIS now supports the majority of projection systems as defined by the OGC. You can work either with or without Projection System setting.
Projection System or CRS can be specified for each resource and for the Map View. The latter can be stored in the Workspace.
Vector data is reprojected on-the-fly, raster data requires the same CRS as the map view.
OCR stands for Orbit Composite Resource. This resource type uses an index to access a set of other resources and present it to Orbit GIS as a single read-only resource. The set of resources used can be a fixed list or a dynamically determined list, e.g. each file in subfolder X.
OCR is very handy for accessing files that are modified outside the user's domain. At each access of the resources, OCR will scan from disc again, making sure the newest versions are presented to the user. All that is optimised with tiled caching techniques.
OCR Resources can be assembled by Orbit GIS using the Workspace which makes it extremely easy.
OMI, Orbit's Multiresolution Image format, is yet improved for optimal performance. Benchmarks now show that OMI is the fastest image format available today.
Added secondary ESRI SHP File driver for faster read-only use. Ideal to be used with very large shape files. Orbit GIS will scan the file instead of reading the data into memory resulting in dramatically faster startup time.
Orbit GIS now supports improved drag and drop to open datasets. Drag a file from your windows explorer to the map view, dataset listing or overview window in Orbit GIS and let go.
You can also drag and drop a workspace file which will replace the current workspace.
Drag and drop an Orbit Legend file from your Windows Explorer or Mac Finder onto the proper dataset in the dataset list to apply this legend to that dataset.
Drag and drop a dataset from the dataset list onto the overview window to enable/disable it's presence in the overview window.
Drag and Drop an Orbit Annotations File from Windows Explorer or Mac Finder on the main view window to open the annotation.
The Legend Editor for Labels and Pie Charts is dramatically improved, both in User Interface as in capabilities.
A scalebar can be viewed live on top of the map view. Appearance is set as Preference.

The appearance of labels can be limited to a scale range different from the dataset spatial data appearance scale range.
New intelligent 'Resolve Collission' option available to avoid overlapping labels.
Pie charts can now be rendered using a Shadow setting. Pie Chart Label appearance is improved with more optional parameters. An attribute value can be used as a Pichart Title, with Style and HotSpot location settings.
Color Images can now be set to render in greyscale instead of full color.
In addition to the 4.1 update, rounded text boxes have now been added to the Annotation types. Also, label appearance parameters such as Shadow and Halo are now available for Annotations.
Text items in annotations can now contain several text and image entries. You can easily put images as annotation on screen.
The About panel now lists all Orbit GIS program modules, its versions and build date. It also lists all system runtime parameters and presents a direct access to the log file.
