Is basically the equivalent of a spatial resource. In Orbit, all spatial resources are called Datasets. Datasets contain general properties, a data modeling definition, data, and possible legend and/or labeling specifications. It is either vector data, image data or hybrid. Often referred to as a Layer, however it is more precise to refer a Model to a Layer.

Short for Enterprise Orbit Server. This server software serves spatial resources to be consulted by Orbit clients, such as Orbit GIS or a corporate application.
Short for Internet Orbit Server. IOS extends EOS with internet enabling supplements, such as OGC WMS/WFS services. Orbit FlashMap is designed for website & browser integrated map viewing.
A definition of how a single dataset must be graphically drawn.
Subset of a dataset that holds an exact structural definition of spatial information objects. A Dataset contains at least 1 Model. All objects belong to exactly 1 Model within a Dataset.
see Spatial Information Object.
A resource is some quantity of data, generally speaking spatial data, that is stored in some place in some way. Most spatial resources are either stored as files in a normal file system, or in servers (RDBMS, OODBMS, internet service or other). Orbit Technology uses Resource Drivers to connect to each format of storage.

A Resource Driver is an Orbit extension allowing Orbit to read (and optionally write) spatial data in a specific storage format. Orbit comes with a Resource Driver API allowing everyone to develop drivers for any storage format. Orbit GIS is standard equipped with default implementations of this API for a range of popular storage formats.
Entity that holds information about a single real-world feature. All spatial data from any source is presented as SIO within Orbit.
A physical form in which data is stored on disc.
