Orbit XML File

An Orbit XML File (*.oxf) is Orbit's xml vector file storage format: XML stands for 'Extensible Markup Language' which is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. An OXF stores both spatial information (geometry) and attribute information.

An Orbit XML File is similar to an Orbit Vector File:

• one Dataset contains one or more Models
• each Model has a unique Spatial Component (points, lines, or areas) and unique Attribute Component
• each Attribute Component contains one or more Attributes grouped by one or more Attribute Sets
• each Attribute can have one or more values

The OXF can be accompanied by

• an Orbit Legend file (*.olg) to define the legend or presentation of the resource in Orbit.
• an Orbit Resource Description file (*.ord) or a projection file (*.prj) to define the coordinate reference system of the resource in Orbit.
