====== Update History : Version 4.1 ====== ===== New Features : Object Editing ===== ==== New Cut, Copy, Paste, Paste as New functions ==== These new functions offer the standard clipboard functionality for generic Spatial Objects. You can now copy an object from one dataset to another using these clipboard functions. The Paste function will match attributes as good as possible. The Paste function will paste the objects in de Dataset/Model that is specified in the New Objects toolbar (see Menu -> Edit -> Edit Objects). The 'Paste as New' function pastes the copied objects into a new dataset that is created on the fly, copying the data structure of the objects. ==== New Editing Functions ==== New function : Auto-Create area object from line objects (single, range).\\ New function : Make Planigraph (cut all line objects at intersections and create non-overlapping areas)\\ New function : Erase all data within area ==== New Memorize functions to copy and paste attribute values of objects ==== The Object Inspector panel now includes functions to memorize the attributes of the current object. You can preset to assign the memorized values to any new object created, or you can Paste the memorized attribute values to another object. The memorize function works for all attribute values, or for a single selected attribute table row. ==== New use of attribute value validation ==== The attribute rule 'valuelist' can now contain 2 values : the attribute value, and a description. You can import this list from a file.\\ When editing this attribute value in the Object Inspector, a drop-down list will present both the value as the description for easy interpretation. ==== New attribute highlighting in Object Inspector, Find and Query tools. ==== The presentation of attribute values in the Object Inspector is improved with several new indicators :\\ Gray background = field value is determined by a Rule\\ Drop-down box = field value is determined by a Value List\\ Yellow Fill = Join field\\ Blue Fill = Hyperlink Field (runnable)\\ Blue Font = Hyperlink Field (editable)\\ Annotation Icon = Embedded Annotation field (OVF/OVFT resource formats only) Annotation popup can be automated upon object selection. ==== New manual editing of co-ordinates ==== In the Object Inspector, you can now manually edit the co-ordinates of each point in X, Y (and Z if applicable). ==== New Construction tools ==== Creation of Construction Circles based on position and radius.\\ Calculation of intersections of Construction Circles with Construction Lines and Objects. ===== New Features : User Interface ===== ==== New Drag and Drop ==== Orbit GIS now supports drag and drop to open datasets. Drag a file from your windows explorer to the map view in Orbit GIS and let go. ==== New Auto-Start ==== Orbit GIS opens automatically when double-clicking on a Workspace file in your windows explorer (*.ogw extension). The Workspace is loaded along. ==== New Copy View to Clipboard function ==== Both in the File menu as in the map context menu, a 'Copy View to Clipboard' function is added. This function copies the current view //as is// to the clipboard. ==== New object highlighting options ==== A selected object can now display an indicator on each point, and indicate the sequence of the points with a small arrow symbol in between subsequent points.\\ All snap-able points can now be highlighted. \\ These options can be switched on/off in the highlighting preference settings. ==== New Keystroke shortcuts ==== You can now determine to launch a function with a single keystroke, for example 'N' to start creating a new object, or 'M' to launch the Move Point function. ==== New Measure functions ==== Added function to measure a perpendicular distance from any line.\\ Added function to measure an angle between two lines. ==== New Dataset List Views Management ==== Orbit GIS now supports multiple views from the same dataset list and switch between the views. Each dataset listing can have proper settings of visibility, sequence, legend display etc. Lists can be named individually and can be presented in either a Tabbed Panel view or as items in a drop-down list.\\ Multiple lists are saved in the Orbit GIS Workspace. ==== New Dataset Selectability setting ==== A new Selectability setting can be switched on/off for each individual dataset. When this option is used, selection of objects is restricted to these datasets only, even if other datasets remain visible. Selectability is saved in the Orbit GIS Workspace. ==== New Dataset Datatype Indicator ==== A new Datatype Indicator can be switched on/off for each individual dataset. The Indicator shows immediate feedback about the Spatial Component type, being Point, Line, Area, Image or hybrid (a combination of the above in multiple models). The Datatype Indicator is saved in the Orbit GIS Workspace. ==== New Dataset Resource Location Indicator ==== In a Dataset List, you can now choose to show the Resource Location. ==== New Dataset Storage Format Indicator ==== In a Dataset List, you can now choose to show the Resource Storage Format. ===== New Features : Graphics & Viewing ===== ==== New Auto-Fill tools for graphics ==== The panel to auto-fill graphic parameters in the Legend Editor is restyled and many new options have been added. ==== New Gradient and Palette libraries ==== The Legend Editor now contains libraries of gradients and color palettes. These libraries are defined in XML and can easily be personalised. \\ The Legend Editor displays the gradients and color palettes wherever applicable. ==== New Texture library ==== Textures are put in a library as image files. The Legend Editor now shows the textures and allows transparency settings for black&white images ==== New Image Legend options ==== The Legend for Color Image resources is extended with a couple of interesting parameters :\\ - Transparency Color & Margin : Make a color (range) transparent\\ - Color Picker functionality to conveniantly select transparency color from the image\\ - Sharpening : on-the-fly sharpening of the source image ==== New Vector Symbols type ==== Vector-based Symbols can now be drawn with Orbit GIS and saved as OVF file. \\ You can add a Legend to this file and define it as a symbol in a Symbol Library.\\ This opens new ways of presenting symbolics on the screen. ===== New Features : Tools ===== ==== Improved Annotation tools ==== Annotation tools are dramatically improved. \\ Text are now both scale-bound and fixed sized. You can switch any annotation text between both modes. Text-annotations can contain multi-line texts. \\ Symbols can now also be stretched in a single direction. \\ Rotate Left & Rotate Right functions added \\ Annotation Name entry field for file based and attribute based annotations. \\ Reset Size for all text annotations \\ Added graphic parameters for annotation types : texture filling and contour hiding for area's \\ \\ Overlay viewing mode and tagged viewing mode when zooming out. ==== New 'Process Query' Extension ==== This extension creates a new dataset based on the conditions specified in the Query tool. ==== New 'Clustering' Extension ==== This extension creates a cluster presentation based on a tiled coverage layer and any source data. ==== New 'Compare' Extension ==== This extension creates a cluster presentation based on a tiled coverage layer and any source data. ===== Enhanced Functions ===== ==== Enhanced Snapping functions ==== The Snap function is dramatically improved with the following levels of snapping:\\ - snap to Construction Point\\ - snap to Construction Line\\ - snap to Object Point\\ - snap to Object Line\\ - snap proximity in Z\\ - redesigned properties for snapping to objects and/or construction tools\\ - Gap Check function with threshold and highlighting of gaps between points of the selected dataset.\\ ==== Enhanced Resource Browser ==== Added visible feedback for resources that are no longer available in the Recently Used listing.\\ Added Date/Time column for all resources.\\ Corrected display of resource Size and Format for LOCAL file resources.\\ Sorting is enabled on all columns by double clicking on the column header. ==== Enhanced Object Inspector panel ==== Added options for viewing/hiding attribute table columns. ==== Enhanced Graphic Editor panels ==== When editing the legend in the Dataset Properties panel, all popup panels now have an Apply button for instant visible feedback.\\ Many options for area filling have been made more user friendly. ==== Enhanced Fence tool ==== The Fence tool can now be used to dim the area outside the fence with a transparency slider. The dimmed area can be printed. ==== Extensions menu ==== Dynamic Orbit GIS Extensions now appear under the dedicated Extensions menu. ==== Auto-selection of Dataset ==== When opening a first dataset, it gets selected automatically. \\ When closing a dataset, the next dataset gets selected automatically. ==== Legend Display in Dataset List ==== You can now switch on/off the Legend Displays for all datasets at once. ===== Technology Improvements ===== ==== Platform Support ==== This version or Orbit GIS, Orbit Explorer and Orbit Explorer Plus is supported on Linux (32bit and 64bit) and Mac OS-X.
