====== Dataset List View Options ====== All spatial resources opened in your workspace are listed in the Dataset list. ===== Switching Datasets on/off ===== At the left hand side of the Dataset name, a checkbox indicates the visibility of the Dataset. Visibility is changed by clicking exactly on the checkbox. When visible, the name of the Dataset is displayed dark grey, when invisible it is displayed light grey. {{dsl_list_1.gif?464x341&nolink}} {{dsl_list_2.gif?464x341&nolink}} Click exactly on the Checkbox to alter visibility. ===== The Visibility marker ===== | {{menu_option_selected.gif?20x20&nolink}} | Dataset is Visible | | {{menu_option_unselected.gif?20x20&nolink}} | Dataset is Invisible | | {{menu_soloview.gif?14x14&nolink}} | Dataset is in SoloView, overriding all other dataset's visibility setting. | **Performance Remark** : When the dataset is a vector based resource, Orbit reads -depending on the resource storage format- the entire resource file into memory the first time you switch it on. Remember, when adding the dataset to your dataset list using the Resource Browser, the dataset appears in 'off' mode. Switching it on for the first time may require some time depending on the size of the resource. Once read, performance for every next task is much faster.\\ Image based resources are not read into memory, but always accessed in real-time mode from disc. It is advised to store image data on a fast disc device (preferably not CD or DVD).\\ To optimize performance, there are several great options. Some examples : store your resources in an EOS system; convert vector data to a file based tiled-access format such as OVFT, store image data in an OID database on a RAID (harddisc system) server. ===== Scale Dependent Visibility ===== When the Dataset Properties define Scale Limits for viewing, the dataset will not be visible when the Map View is drawn at a scale outside the defined Scale Limits. The On/Off status is overridden by this setting. Whenever a Dataset gets out of scale limits, it's name is displayed //italic //in the dataset list. In this example, the "Road Centerlines" are not displayed at the current scale : they are invisible because of Scale Limits imposed on the dataset, regardless the fact that the visibility setting is On. {{dsl_list_3.gif?464x341&nolink}} To set Scale Limits, see [[..:..:datasets:selected_dataset#Scale Limits|Selected Dataset]] ===== Changing view sequence ===== You can alter the sequence of the Datasets by moving the Datasets up and down in the list. Click to highlight (select) the dataset, drag up or down and drop at the desired position. While dragging, the target position is highlighted in a dark grey background. In this example, 'Road Areas' is moved upwards. It will take place above 'Buildings'. In doing so, it might cover the visibility of other datasets. In this example, 'Road Areas' will not cover 'Buildings', but it will cover 'Road Centerlines'. {{dsl_list_4.gif?464x341&nolink}} Moving 'Road Areas' up. {{dsl_list_5.gif?464x341&nolink}} Finished moving. Like many traditional GIS viewing systems, Orbit GIS displays the legend definition within the Dataset List. To use Legend Display, see [[..:..:datasets:selected_dataset|Selected Dataset]]. {{dsl_list_6.gif?464x341&nolink}} Legend with Classification : {{dsl_list_9.gif?464x341&nolink}} ===== SoloView ===== When turned on, you get a view only of the selected Dataset, in the Map View Window. The checkbox of the selected Dataset is orange colored. When another Dataset is selected, the SoloView option stays on and is applied to the selected dataset. See [[..:..:datasets:selected_dataset|Selected Dataset]]. ===== Editing ===== When editing data, the state of the Dataset is displayed with an extra icon. The state is either : * Locked : editing is not allowed * Unlocked : editing is allowed but no data is changed * Changed : editing is allowed and changes have been made but not yet saved. The dataset is marked with a small SAVE icon indicating that you require to apply your changes to save the data. {{dsl_list_10.gif?464x341&nolink}} ===== Other Options ===== The context menu contains the same options as the Dataset Menu.
