Follow the steps described below to graphically select objects on the MapCanvas:
  - Activate selection by:
    - Clicking the selection arrow on the top toolbar \\ {{:orbitgis:mapcanvas:selection:select.png?nolink|}} \\ \\
    - Opening the [[111:orbitgis:map:2d_menus|Map 2D Selection menu]] and choosing "Select" \\ {{:orbitgis:mapcanvas:selection:selection_menu_v2.png?nolink|}} \\ \\
  - Click on an object in the mapcanvas to select it or click and drag a rectangle to select multiple objects. To change the selection method, see [[111:orbitgis:map:2d_menus#selection_menu|selection menu]].\\ {{:orbitgis:mapcanvas:selection:select:select_multiple_objects.png?nolink|}} \\ \\ Add objects to the selection by pressing the **SHIFT** button while clicking. \\ Alternatively add or remove objects from the selection by pressing the **CONTROL** button while clicking. \\ \\
  - Clear selected objects by opening the Map 2D Selection menu and choosing "Clear" or with short keys Alt + CONTROL \\ \\

**Notes**
  * When the [[111:orbitgis:preferences:datasetlist#Selectability Indicator|Selectability indicator]] is [[111:orbitgis:preferences:datasetlist|activated]], it is only possible to select objects in datasets with an active selectability indicator. When the option is deactivated, it is the [[111:orbitgis:preferences:selection|Preferences Object Selection Mode]] which determines if you can only select objects from the [[111:orbitgis:datasetlist:operations#Active_Dataset|activated dataset]] or from [[111:orbitgis:datasetlist:operations#Dataset_visibility|all visible datasets]]. 
  * Annotations and Constructions have their proper selection function. See [[111:orbitgis:tools:annotation:sidebar|]] and [[111:orbitgis:tools:construction:sidebar|]].
  * To select only one object, right-click in the mapcanvas to open the [[111:orbitgis:map:context_menu]]. The object on the clicked location will be selected.\\ {{:orbitgis:mapcanvas:selection:select:right_click_menu.png?nolink|}}

  * [[111:orbitgis:datasets:attribute_table:index|Attribute Table]]: The attributes of the selected objects are highlighted in the Attribute Table view when this view is linked to the map.
