Object Points

What are Object Points?

For each object point, several image points are measured on different overlapping photographs.
An object point is the position in terrain for the corresponding tiepoints indicated on the photographs.
The object points must be known approximately in terrain coordinate values to be used in the bundle adjustment.
When the approximate terrain coordinates for the objects points are given, we can continue with the bundle block adjustment.
The adjustment will improve the accuracy of the coordinates of the object points.

The next menu functions will be displayed when pressing the 'Object points' menu:

Calculate Approximations:

  • Approximate coordinates of the object points and projection centers are necessary for the adjustment.
The approximate values for the projection centers are already known when starting up a project, See Step2: Exterior Orientation.
We still have to find approximate coordinates for the object points.
  • This function calculates approximate values for the object points in terrain coordinates for you.
See the next option when object point coordinates are available.
This procedure will in fact also calculate approximate values for the projection centers, and replace the already known projection center coordinates..
  • This function needs all the tiepoint measurements and the control point coordinates.
If the tiepoints for the corresponding control points are missing, this will be displayed in a dialog as a remark when starting the calculation:

Open Object Points...(replace current Object Point List):

  • This function lets you open a file containing coordinates for object points and introduces them into the project.
  • The existing list will be replaced.
  • This is an alternative to the calculation of the object points approximate values.
  • By saving the project, the object points are placed in the file: {Projectname}.sop

Save Object Points as..

  • This function lets you save the object points in a file separate from the project files.

Clear Object Points List..

  • This function will clear all the Object Point coordinates available in the project.
