Find Objects

What does it do ?

Use the Find tool to search for objects that comply with an arbitrary value.

The Tool

The Find Object tool is a window. Open the window by selecting the menu option Tools → Find… or clicking the Find button in the toolbar.

Finding an Object

Search for an object by entering an approximate attribute value. Type in the value you search for and press 'Find'.

You can set where Orbit GIS has to search : only in the selected dataset, in all visible datasets or in all datasets, visible or not. Depending on the size of the datasets to be searched, this process will take little or more time.

The Find operation will collect all objects that completely or partly contain the searched value in any of their attributes.

The Result

The Objects found are listed in an embedded Object Inspector. You have basically the same tools available as in the regular Object Inspector, but remember these objects are not selected, they are only the result of the Find process.

Selecting the result set

You can browse through your result set, and select and highlight a focus object. It is then transferred to the Object Inspector and highlighted on the map. You can select the complete result set by setting 'all objects' on before pressing 'Select and Highlight'.

You can calculate intersections between the result set of your find operation, and the list of selected objects in the Object Inspector :

Exclude : Merge both and but remove objects that are common.
