Page Setup
Use this standard settings window to define the paper size and orientation for your template. It is advised to do this first, before creating your layout. Paper size and orientation are stored in the template so that Orbit recognizes the templates that fit a chosen printer device.
Also, do set the margins correct according to your target printing device. When printing, Orbit GIS refers to the margins set here to determine the page layout. This may differ from the margins required by your printing device.
How to create a Print Layout template
A template is a combination of a page, margins and components. Each component can have properties. You can create, move and edit component properties.
The toolbar shows file buttons, margin buttons and component editing buttons :
| | Zoom in and out by a single click |
| | On/Off : Shows the Margins as set in the Page Setup in a blue dashed line, and the bounds of each component as a blue solid line. |
| | On/Off : Limits the positioning of components to the margins. You cannot move components outside. |
| | Pops up the properties panel |
| | Copies the component |
| | Removes the component. There is no UNDO function available ! |
| | Moves the component a single pixel in either direction. |
| | Opens these help files |
Components are created by clicking on the component icon ion the right hand toolbar or selecting it fm the components menu. A new component is placed the center of the page. You can drag and move it around, resize and edit its properties. Use the right-click menu for options.
Print Layout Template Components
The vertical toolbar at the left shows the components to place on the layout.
| | Component to place a North Arrow |
| | Component to place any Image |
| | Component to place the Legend of the map |
| | Component to place the Legend of the Overview map |
| | Component to place a Line |

General Tips
On a Layout there can only be ONE MAP and ONE LEGEND component. Use the other components to complete your layout.
Set the properties of each component as you desire. Make sure that, when referring to an Image file, the image file must reside in the same directory as the template file.
To be recognised by Orbit GIS, place your template file in the 'templates' folder within your Orbit GIS installation.
