Orbit GIS Tour Guide
Basic Terms
| Workspace | A range of settings including a list of datasets and view preferences. Bundles your choice of datasets and settings into a single file for easy and fast recovery. Also referred to as a “project”. |
| Dataset | A single resource of spatial data, either vector data, image data or hybrid. Often referred to as a Layer, however capable to contain complex combinations of data. |
| Dataset List | A list of datasets (Layers) that are currently available (Table Of Contents) |
| Resource | A physical set of data, either spatial or non-spatial |
| Resource Browser | Window to select a Resource from your file system or remote server |
| Resource Driver | A piece of software that allows the Orbit system to access a specific format of data storage |
| Legend | A definition of how a single dataset must be graphically drawn |
| Model | Subset of a dataset that holds an exact structural definition of spatial objects |
| Object | A single spatial information object within a model of a dataset |
| View | The graphic representation of the contents of one or more datasets |
