Creating a New Dataset

  • Create a new dataset by using the New Dataset wizard.
  • At least 1 dataset have to be open to determine any reference to a co-ordinate system.
  • In this new dataset wizard, only 1 model is defined. After finishing the wizard it is possible to modify and extend the dataset structure and properties.

New Dataset Wizard

Open the New Dataset wizard

  • from menu : Dataset > New Dataset…

Step 1 : Dataset Name

Enter the name for the new dataset. This is the name the dataset will get in the dataset list.

Step 2 : Spatial Data Type

Select the spatial data type : point, line or area.

  • Orbit uses only these three spatial types of objects.
  • It is not possible to create a dataset of type image interactively.

Step 3 : Define Attributes

Enter an attribute name and select the data type of the attribute values.

  • Click next '>' to add a new additional attribute. Use previous '<' to go one attribute back.
  • If there is no attribute name entered, the attribute will not be added.

Step 4 : Save and Finish

After entering all attributes and specifying there data types, finish the wizard and save the new dataset by clicking the little yellow square.

  • Specify the location, name and storage format for the dataset.
