Using EOS in Orbit GIS
For a user to log on to EOS, he requires the following information :
- server machine
- port on which EOS is running
- user name and password
The Server machine
This is the name of the machine on which EOS is installed and running. The EOS administrator must communicate this server name to all users. If your organization does not have a DNS server, you may communicate the server's IP address.
The Port
Let's first explain this technical detail. All services on a server machine communicate with applications through a port. A famous port number for that matter is the internet's http protocol which is mostly '8080'. EOS is standard installed as listening to port 1100. The EOS Administrator should communicate this port number.
User name and password
The administrator can declare users, user groups and administrators using the EOS Console. Each can be assigned passwords and resource access permissions. OF course, the administrator needs to communicate the user login name and password to each individual user.
It is clearly advised that individual users should have individual passwords : EOS cannot detect different users when they log on using the same user name and password, which can cause consistency problems.
