Advanced Server Configuration

Network Performance

Several properties can be set to tune the network performance of your server.

  • Number of work threads : Setting this property keeps the server from creating too much threads. Most operating systems take a serious performance hit when too many threads are active.
  • Maximum total of pending requests : Setting this property makes sure the server doesn't run out of memory. When this total is reached, new connections. This limit also protects the server from denial-of-service attacks.

DOX Service Properties

The DOX service implements a very efficient binary protocol for talking to other services. It is used by Orbit GIS to talk to the GIS service (EOS).

The following properties can be added to <server>/config/server.ini

  • portserver.DOX.workthread.count - Number of worker threads (defaults to 10)
  • portserver.DOX.maximum.pending.requests - Maximum total of pending requests (defaults to 25)

IOS Service Properties

The IOS service is a service for HTTP requests. The OFM product implements a set of basic requests, which are used by the OFM Flash component to bring GIS data to the web. Requests of this service also talk to the EOS service (ex.: map render request, geocoding request, …).

The following properties can be added to <server>/config/server.ini

  • portserver.IOS.workthread.count - Number of worker threads (defaults to 10)
  • portserver.IOS.maximum.pending.requests - Maximum total of pending requests (defaults to 25)
