IOS and FlashMap

IOS : the Internet Orbit Server

IOS is the extension to EOS to publish spatial data on the web. IOS is an Orbit Client (just like Orbit Explorer would be) and manages the communication between the browser (Orbit FlashMap component) and EOS.

IOS uses the OGC WMS protocol with orbit extension to exchange information. The spatial resources managed by EOS can be 'published' by IOS to be viewed in the web. This is done by creating an OGC WMS Capabilities file.

IOS talks to EOS using a predefined user account: user 'ios' with password ' ios'. The resources you wish to publish on the web must be accessible by this user.

Orbit FlashMap

Orbit FlashMap is a Macromedia Flash component for internet viewing of data served by EOS. FlashMap communicates with IOS based on standard webservices protocol (http, XML, …). The web page containing Orbit FlashMap is initialized by a configuration file, that can be created by Orbit GIS by setting up an Orbit GIS Workspace and using the 'Publish to the Web' menu option.
