About EOS
Orbit GIS is based on the Orbit Spatial Toolkit. The toolkit allows dynamic geofusion and can combine local, corporate and web-based resources in a single view. To access corporate and internet resources from an Orbit Client such as Orbit GIS, we use the EOS server.
What is EOS ?
EOS stands for Enterprise Orbit Server, an enterprise server system for central storage and maintenance of spatial resources. Using EOS, Orbit GIS instantly becomes a client/server application, providing access to corporate resources. The client/server application can run within your LAN, wireless, VPN and even over internet.

Scalability
EOS is highly scalable, from small stand-alone configurations (miming a client/server situation), up to series of parallel servers all serving vast amounts of clients.
The EOS system allows to keep resources on different machines and platforms, yet still serve them together as one service point to access all resources. Clients, such as a Browser Based System or Orbit GIS, simply select a dataset from the provided catalog.
Resources
The EOS system can serve all types of Resources. It uses the same technology as Orbit GIS, i.e. the Resource Driver API which allows to access all imaginable resources. Default implementations of the Resource Driver API are available for many popular storage formats, both vector and imagery. Platforms
The EOS system is a pure Java based server system. It only requires the availability of a JRE (Java Runtime Engine) which is available on most platforms today. EOS is tested on Microsoft, Solaris and Linux. EOS works fine in mixed server platform environments.
