How to prepare a Mapping Run with Orbit 3DM Content Manager and Share using Orbit 3DM Publisher

This video is about sharing a prepared/ready Mobile Mapping Run to the Orbit 3DM Publisher using version 21.10.0. The same workflow is applied when using the Orbit 3DM Import And Upload Tool version 21.10.0.

Step by step operations

1. Open the pre-prepared Mobile Mapping run
2. Proceed with quality control
3. Calculate metadata
4. Verify the ready to share status
5. Share resources
6. Launch the Orbit 3DM Console
7. Create new resource
8. Create new Publication
9. Setup the Publication:

  • Add Resources
  • Set settings
  • Configure workspace layout with views and basemaps

10. Save Publication

At opening, Orbit Content Manager has a predefined workspace where Bings maps are already inserted into the current workstation. If you would like to change this preference at startup, you can remove or add new layers to have your own customized workspace.

Drag and drop the Mobile Mapping Run, the file with the .omr extension into Orbit 3DM Content Manager. Related data is going to be added to the dataset on the left panel, to Map 2D, to Map 3D, and to the Catalog.

Quality control is part of data preparation and delivery. Permanently proceed with quality control before sharing the data using Orbit 3DM Publisher. Always prepare the data for delivery by running “Review image availability” and “Review data for 3DM Viewer”. Associated metadata is going to be updated.
The icon indicating the Mapping Run is ready for sharing within the Orbit 3DM Publisher should be green or yellow. Once so, under your Orbit 3DM Publisher installation, run the associated .bat files to start your Orbit Service under “Services”. Afterward, open the Orbit 3DM Publisher Console and log in using the authorized credentials.

Once inside under “Resources”, create a new resource to perceive the shared data. Under “Publications”, create a new Publication and Setup it up inside the Orbit 3DM Cloud Viewer. Adjust settings to have adequate resource visualization. Save the Publication for further analysis and sharing with other users.
