Convert 2D to 3D

This page describes the tool “Convert 2D to 3D”.

Tools > Convert 2D to 3D

Concepts

2D Vector data with point, line or area objects can be converted to 3D vector data using a 3D reference.

Source

Set the source vector file or directory via drag & drop or browse to the file location.

Target

Set the target file for the result dataset.

  • Optionally when target file already exists, overwrite the existing file.
  • Optionally when processing is completed, add converted resource automatically to the dataset list.

Options

  • 3D Vertexes from Vertexes
All vertexes of the point, lines or area objects will be separately converted to 3D vertexes.
  • 3D Boxes from Areas
  • Vertical Areas from Segments
  • Vertical Lines from Points

3D Reference

  • Attribute Value
Select an attribute from the source vector file to be used as the height.
  • DEM Resource
  • Fixed Height
  • Pointcloud
Select the point cloud from the dropdown list. The search radius parameter defines the points around the object to be used to calculate the Z value.
    • Lowest Z
    • Highest Z
    • Average Z

Results

Objects that could not be converted to 3D are added to a new vector dataset <original_dataset_name+'_no3d.ovf'. Change the parameters and run the tool again to improve the results.
