Manage Asset Inventory Themes

This page describes the desktop Asset Inventory administration procedures.

Concepts

A Theme is a special 3D vector Dataset available for Asset Inventory.

  • Dataset Properties Window
Like all other Datasets, Properties, Structure and Legend of Themes can be reviewed and modified, see Dataset Properties Window.
  • Simple Dataset Structure
Themes have one Dataset Model, one Attribute Set, multiple Attributes having one Attribute Value, see Vector Data Structure.
  • Manage Themes
Adding Datasets as new Themes or removing Themes must be done using the appropriated procedures as documented below.
Do not manually remove Themes via file-editing to avoid software malfunction.

Create New Theme

The administration procedure “Create new theme” allows the Orbit administrator to create a new Asset Inventory Theme.

Feature Extraction Standard - Pro
Procedures > Administration > Asset Inventory > Create new theme

The procedures to create a new Theme is similar to create new Dataset.
This page documents only notes and extra's related to Inventory Themes. It is recommended to read first Create New Vector Dataset.

Special Attention

  • Dataset Name
A unique name is required. If the Theme already exists, the Theme won't be created.
The name can have only alphanumeric characters, spaces and underscores. Other characters (.,-,é,ç, …) are not allowed.
As Themes can be stored in databases, some names are reserved and cannot be used (e.g “select”, “like”, “not”, …)
  • Dataset Coordinate Type
The Coordinate Type cannot be set as Themes are always 3D Datasets.
  • Dataset CRS
Measured coordinates will be converted to the Dataset CRS, see Supported Coordinate Reference Systems in 3D Mapping context.
  • Attribute Names
The name can have only alphanumeric characters and underscores. Spaces and other characters (.,-,é,ç, …) are not allowed.
As Themes can be stored in databases, some names are reserved and cannot be used.
  • Create and Save
Create Theme using the according button and end the procedure with the square button to confirm.

Remove Theme

The administration procedure “Remove Theme” allows the Orbit administrator to completely remove an inventory.
The dataset and associated inventory database, snapshots and documents will be removed.

Procedures > Administration > Asset Inventory > Remove Theme

Import Theme

The administration procedure “Import Theme” allows the Orbit administrator to import any supported vector resource as new Inventory Theme.

Procedures > Administration > Asset Inventory > Import Theme

Special Attention

  • Single Model Datasets
The Dataset Structure of an Inventory Theme must have exactly one Dataset Model. When selecting a Dataset having more than one Model, an additional pop-up window will appear to select the Model to import.
  • Single Attribute Set
The Dataset Structure of an Inventory Theme must have exactly one Dataset Attribute. When selecting a Dataset having more than one Attribute set, all Attribute sets will be merged.
  • Client/Server
At import and export of inventory themes the source and target file location must be available for both Desktop Client and EOS Server.

Export Theme

The administration procedure “Export Theme” allows the Orbit administrator to export an Inventory Theme to any supported vector resource.

Procedures > Administration > Asset Inventory > Export Theme

Special Attention

  • Themes available for export
Only Inventory Themes added to the current Workspace will be available for export. To add missing themes to the current Workspace, see below “Manage Themes”.

Notes

  • Object ID
At import and export of Inventory Themes object id's not updated to easily share and export Themes including Inventory Snapshots and Documents.
  • Snapshots and Documents
An exported Theme can include or not the snapshots and attached documents.
    • Option “Export snapshots and documents” enabled - the snapshots and documents will be exported to the same location as the exported vector file in an open file structure, ordered by Object ID
    • Option “Export snapshots and documents” not enabled - the snapshots and documents are not exported, but they are stored in an open file structure, ordered by Inventory Theme and Object ID. They can be found in:
      • Standalone : %localappdata%/Orbit/Orbit MM Asset Inventory/services/ext_inventory_suite/<theme>/<object id>/
      • Client/Server <Orbit Client>/data/inventories/<theme>/<object id>/

In a separated snapshots.csv (Standalone) or database table (Client/Server) metadata like source, position and orientation of snapshots are stored. Via the Object ID third party applications can easily re-link Object and Snapshots/Documents.

  • Dataset Legend
Dataset legend cannot be exchanged with third party applications. An Orbit Legend file is created only when exporting to native Orbit vector resources (e.g *.ovf, *.ovt).
  • Dataset CRS definition
Dataset coordinate definition cannot be exchanged with third party applications. A PRJ file is not exported. More information, see Projection Definition File.

Manage Themes

The administration procedure “Manage Themes” makes it possible to add Inventory Themes or remove (hide) them from the current Workspace.
This procedure is only available for Desktop Standalone, for Client/Server see Manage Asset Inventory Themes - Client/Server.

Procedures > Administration > Asset Inventory > Manage Themes

Flag the “Available” check box to add an Inventory Theme to the current workspace.
