Import Oblique data

This page documents how to use the obliques administration procedure “Import Project”.

The administration procedure “Import Project” allows the Orbit administrator
to import and process a new set of raw oblique data according a well defined import template.

If you received an Orbit Obliques Project (*.oop), use the procedure “add project
for direct use and to append the project to the list of Orbit available obliques projects.

Import Project

Procedures > Administration > Obliques > Import Project
Extensions > Obliques > File > Import Project..

The import procedure consists out of 2 consecutive wizards :

  1. Create a new Orbit Obliques Project
  2. Import data according the selected template
The steps in the import wizard depend on the selected import template.

Create Project

Name
Enter a name for the project.
Only letters, numbers, dashes - and underscores _ are accepted.
Special characters (like é # + & / * …) are not allowed and will be replaced automatically into an underscore _.

Setup (previously “Type”)
Choose an import template. This defines your obliques camera system or the type of oblique data that will be imported.
Orbit has the possibility to add and customize import templates exactly according to your set of data : 3D Mapping Data Preparation and Import Templates

Directory
Browse and select the directory where the new project and data will be stored.
A new project sub-directory will be created to group all files and directories belonging to the project.
If an already processed Orbit Obliques Project directory or sub-directory is selected, Orbit will recognized the project and will just open that project.

Create Project
Click “Create Project” button to confirm.
The 2nd wizard to import the raw data will start automatically depending the selected template and type of obliques data your are importing.

The available steps in the second wizard, documented below, depend on the selected 3D Mapping Data Preparation and Import Templates.

Import Digital Terrain Model

Estimated local ground height
Enter the estimated height of the local ground. This parameter will be used as default ground height for diplaying the oblique imagery with combined DTM.

Missing sample value
Insert the missing sample value of the DTM file.

Choose file
Choose the DTM raster file. When clicking the “Open” button the DTM will be processed.
To overwrite the DTM file just choose the correct DTM file again.

Import Camera's

For every camera the photo positions and images need to be imported.

Import Positions
Use the “Choose File” button to browser and select the file containing the positions of the currently imported camera. The import will start automatically after selecting the file. If the import is successful, proceed to “Move Images”.
If the positions are already imported a new import will replace the previously imported positions.

Move Images
Move the image files to the indicated directory.
This will be a sub-directory “original” of the current camera directory within the newly created run.

Datastructure / CRS
This photo position file needs to be exactly as described by the used import template : data structure, column sequence, type of coordinates, coordinate reference system : 3D Mapping Data Preparation and Import Templates.
If required contact your data supplier or Orbit administrator to adjust.

Process Footprints

Process Footprints
Processing the footprints requires that all photo positions are imported and the image files are in the correct directories.
Footprints are indispensable for any Orbit oblique project. This procedure step is therefor compulsory.
