Orbit Server Migration

This page describes how to migrate an Orbit Server Publisher Setup to a New Server hardware.
Read and understand how to Install an Orbit Service first, Orbit Server Installation.

Preparations

Migrating an Orbit Server to new hardware, will go smooth and fast with no downtime if well prepared.

Request Temporary Activation Key

Orbit provides a 7 day Temporary Activation Key to get the New Server up and running before stopping the Old Server.
Using this Temporary Activation Key you can complete and test the availability of all your publications and stop the Old Server when ready to transfer the license to the New Server.

Request your Temporary Activation Key via Sales at Orbit GT.

Verify Publications on Old Server

Verify and update all publications using // as server url.

Copy Setup

Copy Orbit Installation directory to the New Server.

  • Keep installation path and name on the New Server exactly the same as on the Old Server.
  • Copy the Orbit Data directory, if this directory is not included inside the Orbit Installation directory.

Verify Network Configurations

Make sure used data shares and network access are available on the New Server.
Make sure used credentials for running the Orbit Service are the same on old and New Server.

Prepare Redirect network traffic

Prepare to redirect incoming request from the Old Server to the New Server (IT).

Install Orbit on New Server

Install Orbit Service

  1. Install and start the Orbit Service on the New Server.
  2. Activate using the Temporary Activation Key.

Verify Publications on New Server

Open all publications on the New Server.

Transfer Activation Key

  1. Stop the Orbit Service on the New Server
  2. Activate the Orbit Service on the Old Server using the Temporary Activation Key.
  3. Start the Orbit Service on the New Server
  4. Activate the Orbit Service on the New Server using your Permanent Activation Key.

Redirect network traffic

Redirect incoming request from the Old Server to the New Server (IT).
