Orbit Import from Google Earth

Orbit Import from Google is an extension to OrbitGIS X and provides the tool to import maps from GoogleEarth.
Be sure GoogleEarth is downloaded on your pc.

Open on the main toolbar 'extensions' and choose for 'Import from Google…'

Step 1 : Set the OrbitGIS mapcanvas

Set the Coordinate Rerefence System (CRS), the scale (zoom of OrbitGIS mapcanvas) and – if no background material (e.g., vector data) is available – add a reference point on the preferred location by adding the coordinates via the button . Find this button on the tools sidebar via constructions. For information on construction points, see constructions, for information on scaling and CRS, see statusbar.

Step 2 : Import image from GoogleEarth

Open on the main toolbar 'extensions' and choose for 'Import from Google…'. If a construction point was used in a way to cover the location, activate 'paste position' to copy scale and position (construction point) of your mapcanvas. Bear in mind that you don't move/zoom in your mapcanvas before the final GoogleEarth image is pasted in OrbitGIS. Then click on 'Open GoogleEarth'… (if GoogleEarth is installed on your pc).

Step 3 : copy the GoogleEarth image

Copy the image (Edit < Copy Image or Ctrl+Alt+C) in the GoogleEarth application (without pan or zoom action!). Clean up the GoogleEarth image if necessary (e.g., deselect the temporary location).

Step 4 : put the GoogleEarth image in your OrbitGIS dataset list

Select 'read clipboard' in the Orbit 'Import from Google' window and save the image. A copy of the GoogleEarth image will appear in your OrbitGIS dataset list.
