Google Earth import for Orbit

Google Earth import for Orbit is an extension to OrbitGIS X and provides the tool to import “map locations” and/or “map backgrounds” from GoogleEarth.
Be sure GoogleEarth is downloaded on your pc. Follow the instruction in the video below.

Location Import:

  • Open GoogleEarth by clicking 'open Google Earth'
  • Zoom in to or search for your location in GoogleEarth
  • Copy this location by Ctrl-Shift-C (or Edit < Copy Location) in GoogleEarth
Be sure that the GoogleEarth window is active during the copy action
  • Set your coordinate system in OrbitGIS
  • 'Get Location' will copy this location into your Orbit mapcanvas

Background Import:

  • Set your scale for the background in OrbitGIS
  • Refine your location in OrbitGIS - GoogleEarth will be zoom to your scale
  • Copy this background to OrbitGIS by Ctrl-Alt-C (or Edit < Copy Image) in GoogleEarth
Be sure you don't pan or move in GoogleEarth before copy is executed!
  • Background image will be placed in the OrbitGIS mapcanvas on right scale/crs/location
If you saved already a UAS Mapping project, the image will be saved in the 1_preflight directory. If not, the software will demand a save location.
A background can be imported at any time. If you already have your location and scale in OrbitGIS, just click the 'refine location' button.
