Determination of the Camera Pitch Angle

Preparations

  1. Set up the drone and mount a camera.
  2. Set up and switch on the md-base station + PC.
  3. Open the mdCockpit Downlink decoder program.
  4. Switch on the RC.
  5. Switch on the drone and the camera.
  6. Check the downlink connection to the md-base statation




Determination of the Tilt angle

  1. Set the camera manually (shift button H + throttle) to look exactly 90° downwards.
  2. Open the ‘Technical’ tab (F3) in the mdCockpit Downlink decoder.
  3. Read the value of ‘Cam. P’.
    (This is the value needed to set the CSS parameter in the waypoint editor).
  4. Invert the value if you will use the Orbit GIS Flightplan Wizard software.

  1. Type the determined and inverted Camera Pitch Angle (= CSS parameter) in the ‘Vertical down angle’ field.
  2. Complete the entire flight schedule and save it as .a ‘_WPLIST.txt’-file.




Checking and Fine tuning


(1) Preparation

  1. Read the CSS value and the checksum in the created ‘_WPLIST.txt’-file.
  2. Create in a text editor a new waypoint script:
    CWP 1,152
    CSS <Cam. P value>,<cheksum>
    TIM 50,100
  3. Save the waypoint script as a ‘_WPLIST.txt’-file to the micro SD-Card



(2) Test Execution

  1. Set up the drone and mount a camera.
  2. Put the micro SD-card into the Microdrone.
  3. Open the mdCockpit Terminal Dialogue program.
  4. Switch on the RC.
  5. Switch on the drone
  6. Connect the PC with the drone using the opload cable (FC-side).
  7. Type in the ‘Terminal Dialogue’ the command ‘wptest’.
  8. The servo goes to one of the extreme positions and then moves the mount to look downwards.

(If the camera is not looking exactly downwards, you can fine-tune and adjust the CSS parameter in the Flightplan Wizard by performing the procedure again from 'Determination of the Tilt angle' on).
