Snapping = the action which fits a newly created or an edited object vertex exactly onto a nearby reference position.
This reference position can be another object vertex or construction point/line.

More information about snapping : Snap function.
Snap Behaviour
Enable Snap Enable a vertex of a vector object to snap to approximate vertices of other objects.
Snap proximity in X,Y Fill in the proximity in which vertices have to snap in directions X and Y in the Mapcanvas. The proximity is indicated in an amount of pixels near the snappable point.
Snap proximity in Z Fill in the proximity in which vertices have to snap in direction Z (elevation). The proximity is calculated in real units.
Enable snapping to lines Enables the snap function to lines.
Disable Z Disable the snap function in direction Z of the X,Y,Z system.
Snap to Object Points
Choose one out of the first three options:
Snap to Selected Objects only While editing objects in a certain dataset, Orbit will only snap to vertices of selected objects. To snap to an object point, you need to select the object that contains the destination vertex.
Snap within the Selected Dataset While editing objects, Orbit will snap to all object points within the selected or activated dataset in de dataset list.
Snap to all Visible Datasets While editing objects, Orbit will snap to all objects that are visible on the map. Objects are visible when a dataset is switched on.

Snap To Constructions
Snap to Construction Points Enable Orbit to snap to Construction Points while editing objects. Thus the Construction Points can be used as reference points to put the vertices of objects on.
Snap to Construction Lines Enable Orbit to snap to Construction Lines while editing objects. The Construction Lines can be used as a layer to draw object points.
