Function Overview

Orbit core system

Most Important New Features

Orbit GUI update

  • Maximize Map and Tab
  • Detach every Tabbed panel
  • No Menu, just Toolbar
  • General Restyling
  • Resource browser in Sidebar
  • Panel updates for Dataset Properties, Preferences, About
  • 3D Backdrops
3D Backdrops can be added to the Map 3D view using the Backdrop extension.
  • Numerous adjustments and fixes
  • Simplification of direct attribute editing

Task Manager

  • Shared data and User data path
User data and preferences are stored in the operating system user application data directory.
The software installation is independent of user configurations, preferences and other user data files which facilitates future updates and the use of Orbit on user protected operating systems (e.g. Windows user account control settings).

Upgrade OPC
Orbit version 11.0 includes an upgrade of the Orbit point cloud (*.opc) format :

  • faster reading and writing
  • improved performance and indexing
  • improved rendering options
  • enables point cloud selection, extraction and deleting
  • allows unlimited point cloud attribute

Mobile Mapping

New Features

Data support

  • CRS independent import templates
It is possible to use the same mobile mapping template to import mobile mapping resources expressed in d bthe source (and target) crs of the imported mobile mapping resources when using import templates created for version 11.0.
  • Riegl VMX
Full support for the Riegl VMX MMS
  • Trimble MX8
Full support for the Trimble MX8 MMS

Measure functions
Measure in Mobile Mapping data

  • Perpendicular distance measurement
Perpendicular distance measurement (xyz, xy, z and slope) between a reference line and a point. E.g to measure the exact width of the road.
  • Squared horizontal area with 3 points measurement
Horizontal rectangular area measurement defined by 3 points.
  • Squared vertical area with 3 points measurement
Vertical rectangular area measurement defined by 3 points.
  • Distance to reference plane measurement
The position measure function “Point to reference plane” has been moved to distance measurements. This makes it possible to store the measure line segment as feature.
  • Slant distance measurement result
The inclination of the measured line with the vertical reference plane, expressed in degrees.
  • Move object vertices while measuring
While measuring the asset inventory object, it is possible to move measured object vertices. Previously this was only possible when the object measurement had been finished. It is not possible to insert nor to remove object vertices.
  • All measurements in MM Explorer
All mobile mapping measure functions are available for the Orbit MM Explorer no product restrictions anymore.

Point Cloud presentation

  • Isometric point cloud view
  • Change view mode
  • Fill point cloud option
  • Use reflection on fixed color
  • Shift color scheme for fixed range presentations
  • Point cloud visibility for each view

Usabilities and Enhancements

  • Cancel point cloud import
The point cloud import process can be canceled anytime. This makes it easier to restart to import later or to add the import to the task manager.
  • Display measurements results on map
The mobile mapping measurements are real time updated and displayed on the 2D map. This allows an instant verification of the measured object. If required the measured vertex point can be moved directly to correct or improve the ongoing measurement.
  • Tool tips on sidebar icons
To simplify first use tooltips are added on the mobile mapping view side bar icons.
  • Center map to photo position
Double click the image information in the left lower corner of the mobile mapping image view to center the map to the photo position.
  • Display trajectory
The flag to display the trajectory on the map and in the 3d view has been moved from the generic mobile mapping view setting to the trajectory group settings. To simplify the use.
  • Simplification of generic settings
The generic mobile mapping view settings are slightly reorganized to facilitate the use of some generic view settings.
  • Multi-threaded point cloud ortho processing
Processing the point cloud image is multi threaded. The more powerful the machine the faster the process.
  • Multi-threaded image processing
Processing the imagery is multi threaded. The more powerful the machine the faster the process up to 1000 high resolution images and even more in one hour.

Bug Fixes

11.0.3

  • Display point cloud for Mobile Mapping projects that contain over 2.15 billion points.
  • Overlay point cloud on planars when using projected coordinate systems.
  • Visibility photo and view information on snapshots if the setting “Include overlays on Snapshot” is enabled.
  • Zoom direction “Google style” on the mobile mapping 3D view.
  • Retain status of “Use point cloud” measure flag.
  • Copy distance measurement to feature.
  • Copy catenary measurement to a dataset with crs differnet from the Map crs.
  • Hide photo positions on image view using generic mobile mapping view setting.
  • The labels of the point cloud parameters in the point cloud preference window are displayed when using RGB as pixel color.

11.0.5

  • Minor image distortions on processing panorama images

Fixed layout issues

Feature Extraction

A new product for basic feature extraction has been developed. It includes the Mobile Mapping procedures and functionalities and one new procedure to extract mobile mapping measurements in an easy way into an available dataset.

New Features

  • Procedure Feature Extraction
A simple one step procedure to add and attribute any mobile mapping measurements into the recordable Orbit dataset.

Asset Inventory

New Features

Standalone and Client/Server

  • Choice of object measure function
All mobile mapping measure functions are available to create the asset inventory object. This makes it possible to choose the most appropriated mobile mapping measure function for each object measurement.
  • Attribute measurements on snapshots
The “Add snapshots” button is available from the mobile mapping top tool bar when completing the object information. This makes it possible to store attribute measurements as snapshot overlay if desired.

Client/Server only

  • Optimized inventory database structure
Inventory snapshots and documents are stored in separated database tables for each theme. This updated asset inventory database structure guarantees database performance on doing asset inventory on large scale, read more.

Usabilities

  • The list of system and database protected attributes has been updated to avoid database errors on creating new Asset Inventory themes.
