Orbit License Server

The Orbit License Server is embedded in the Orbit EOS server. It's an integral part of the system.
The License Server manages all Orbit licenses of an Orbit Client-Server installation : EOS and EOS extensions, Orbit Clients and Client extensions.

An Orbit Standalone installation and his extensions can choose to have their licenses managed locally, or connect to the Orbit License Server for central management of their licenses. If doing so, your Orbit standalone licenses become floating licenses within your organization.

Manage Licenses

Use the EOS Console > License tab to view, manage and request your Orbit Client-Server licenses.

Orbit Client-Server Concurrent Use

On an Orbit Client server setup, the Orbit Server will manage the floating licenses. This means that the Orbit Client can be started from any client computer that can connect to the server. The Orbit Server grants the client licenses and counts the concurrent use. If the concurrent use is exceeded no license will be granted. If an Orbit client has been closed its license will be released and will be again available.

When starting an Orbit Client on any computer, the client must connect to your Orbit server to request a license. Only when your license server is able to provide the requested license, the Orbit client will start up properly.
The License Server is able to provide a license if there is at least 1 concurrent user that is not yet licensed at that time.
When exiting the Orbit Client, this concurrent user becomes free again to be used by an other request.

Orbit Clients are “leased” every 15 minutes. When an Orbit Client failed to contact its license server, it will stop functioning.
On the other hand, when the license server does not receive a request from an Orbit Client every 15 minutes, it will drop the license grant automatically.
If the Orbit Client is properly closed its license we be released immediately.

Internet Access

The Orbit License Server does not require internet access to operate.
Internet access is only required when requesting new licenses. If no internet connection can be established at any time, please contact the Orbit support (support at orbitgis dot com).

New license on updates

An update to a new version may require an update of the license as well.
